Each website will make you create a specific type of password, when setting up a new account. In certain cases, you are free to use any word you want as a password, while in others, you have to include at least one number, an upper case character and so on. This makes it quite difficult to remember all passwords. LastPass can help you solve this problem. It allows you to store and manage your usernames and passwords in a secure online vault. The application also gives you the possibility of logging into your online accounts instantly, without typing anything.

LastPass comes in Free, Premium and Enterprise editions. Its setup files will install a series of plug-ins on your web browsers. You can install the plug-ins on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and other browsers. LastPass also provides support for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms, as well as various mobile devices. Besides installing the browser plug-ins, you also need to create an online account.

LastPass comes with a web-based user interface, which you can access on your default web browser, by running a desktop shortcut. The web interface consists of several sections, in which you can manage online accounts, secure notes, identities, form fill profiles and more. To store an online account, you need to specify its name and URL, as well as your username and password. You can also insert personal notes and make a few settings, like preventing LastPass from auto-filling your credentials or logging you in automatically.

The installed plug-ins will place a new option on your web browsers. Once you store one or more accounts, you may click the new option and select a stored website. This will take you directly to the corresponding login page, where your credentials will be filled in automatically. LastPass will place new options on username and password input fields as well. When you type in your credentials, you may click one of these options to store your account instantly.

Another useful feature is the possibility of creating form fill profiles and using them to fill in sign up sheets automatically. A profile may contain a vast range of information, including names, addresses, contact details and much more. When creating a new account, you may click a small icon, located on the first input field, and select one of your profiles to fill in all fields instantly. Another option is placed on the password field, which brings up a password generator. You can use it to create long and complex passwords, with upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.

Pros

You can save your online accounts in a secure database. LastPass allows you to log into your accounts instantly, without typing anything. LastPass also comes with a powerful password generator and auto-fill capabilities, for sign up forms.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to mention. While using LastPass, you only need to remember a single password, to log into any number of online accounts.
